What other subjects would you like to see History Channel do?

Personally, I would like to see a mini-series about the fight between Edison and Tesla.

Don't confuse my lack of funds for company loyalty.

I'd like to see them dramatize the Neal Stephenson historical-scifi series "The Baroque Cycle" -- Quicksilver, The Confusion, and System of the World. Great characters, real history and an outrageous and fascinating plot.

I'd like them to air that Kennedeys mini series they shelved.

reply

No, no more Kennedys. Please.

They should do a series on the U.S. homefront during WWI. The attacks on German newspapers and German-Americans, the crackdown on any antiwar dissent, the draft resisters who fled to Mexico, etc. It's a little-known episode in American history and definitely worthy of a mini-series.

reply

A miniseries on the Revolutionary War might be interesting, especially if it looked at things from both sides. Many of the figures are a lot more complicated than cursory presentations make them appear. It would have to be a lot longer than three episodes though.

reply

Yes, an Edison-Tesla miniseries would totally be awesome!

Anything that actually involves "History" as defined by Webster.. "the study of the past"... and not that as has been airred the last five years, as defined by Nancy Dubuc..."History made every day".. or in other words cheaply produced, pseudo reality soap operas...

.... in other words something that you actually learn some "History" from watching....

Hatfield McCoy feud would fall under your definition of history. Just because they used actors to reenact it does not make it pseudo reality. Certainly your point is valid for all of the other shows they've been doing (axe men ice road truckers ect) but this miniseries seems like a step in the right direction.

Yes, I agree tm... never said H&M was a pseudo-reality piece of crap... I was glad to see that a "professionally" produced, written, and using "Professional" actors "History" program got the highest Neilsen Viewer ratings... besting the cheaply produced crap with z-list scab actors by almost 3 times....

I too, hope it would be a step in the right direction... but I'm not holding my breath... most likely it's the annual "History" program bone that Ms Dubuc tosses out to people who tune to a channel called HISTORY, to watch "History" programming.. and to justify her still having the nerve to continue to call the disgrace of a channel HISTORY....

She throws out one "History" bone... sometime two a year... "102 MINUTES THAT CHANGED AMERICA"... comes to mind... great program but you haven't seen it since it first airred.... she quickly falls back into the cesspool of cheaply produced garbage... that's the type of programming she knows best.

tm... from your post of June 2... so much for the step forward... it's getting back to normal at the channel that still has the nerve to call itself HISTORY.. a new Season of NICE ROAD TRUCKERS premiers tonight... take eight steps backward... the channel is a disgrace...

unfortunately ice road truckers is a show that my friend works on and she readily admits this belongs on tru tv or the truly ruined TLC, exactly what happened to that channel is so sad but in a struggle for ratings and ad dollars all can be corrupted. I would like to see a show about the history of giants. Yes it sounds goofy yet there it is plainly written throughout the history of many cultures throughout the world. There are bones found around the world kept in museums and private hands that need to be researched and at least brought to light and public knowledge. Skeletons that have been found are anywhere from 7 to 10 feet tall and even larger still, it sounds silly but it is a fact that these things do exist just as the elongated skulls do exist but no real study has ever been pursued by mainstream academia. Also I would love to see a real investigation about Atlantis, not ones where amateurs or professionals choose a point on a map and try to fit it into their reality but one that is closest Platos. Jim Allen is the one I believe to be on target but yet little is know about his quest. But anyway the first things to do is to eliminate the BS and keep the History Channel about history and not stupid reality shows, swamp people? really?..

orange... Thank you... it is great to hear somebody come on these boards that knows somebody conected to, or related to somebody, in one of these soap operas.. and not bash us who want "History" programming on a channel that somehow still calls itself HISTORY... the soap operas on HISTORY could still stay in the AETN family and be moved to A&E... leaving the HISTORY stage open for "History" programming... for which it was originally created for in 1995 by A&E......

How about one on Boston in 1775. Featuring a bunch of historical Revolutionary figures it lends itself to 4 parts:
1. Establish the characters and detail the events leading up to April 19, 1775.
2. Paul Revere and the Lexington-Concord battles.
3. Events leading up to and the battle of Bunker Hill.
4. Siege of Boston and the expulsion of the red coats.

Could be narrowed down to 3 episodes I suppose.

I think the people that want more on the Revolutionary War should watch John Adams, mini-series. Von Braun's story and the space program would be a good subject. Testa is a subject suggested on this thread that I like.

reply

doughdee222 has a good idea and I'd like to see the same. If not, then something on Andrew Jackson would be a good idea.

reply

It would be cool to see a mini-series about the Salem Witch Trials. Something spooky like that I think would be cool.

reply

Love that idea!
