Following the horriic 'surgey'will her mother call the police-or hide the bodies?

I think Pauline would go to a mental institution instead; she clearly wasn't stable at all

Almost all if not all mental hospitals have long since closed.

There are several mental hospitals as well as prisons that have special areas for mentally ill prisoners. There are not enough treatment programs and help for the mentally ill until it is too late, and then it is substandard.

The problem we have in this country is that people are not receiving the mental health treatment they need before they do horrible things.

She'd be committed, I think. Arguably worse than prison, but in this case probably more likely.

The people who made this piece of crap should be sent there. And it is too rediculous to think anyone could get away with any of the other crimes in the plot.
