Why is puke funny?

I have never understood why vomit is so hilarious to people these days. I realize that the gross out factor is funny sometimes, but I find that movies like this that have repeated scenes of projectile vomiting take what could have been wonderful & funny and turn it into cheap laughs or even utter garbage. I wanted to like this movie so much, but the oceans and oceans of puke just ruined it for me. I can't see how the movie was made any better by adding all of that. Why couldn't it have just been a little bit of barf in that beginning scene, instead of such a grotesque regurgitation, seemingly of everything the girl had ever eaten in her life? Just my opinion, but I'm sure someone will have to comment & say I'm wrong. Oh well.

It's not. I find scenes like that disgusting.

It's like the diarrhea scene in Bridesmaids. I had to turn it off after that.

I was entertained by the girl doing a snow angel in the ocean of puke.

When in doubt, RAMP IT UP ;)

Modern films are more sh*tty than witty ! I avoid most modern films because of juvenile and childish gross humor !

I'm glad I came across this comment. I was toying with the idea of seeing this movie, perhaps buying a DVD. But it sounds like there is much too much puke in this for me to want to watch it. The potential of a capella groups singing seemed inviting, but barfing I can do without.

If it didn't have the puke scenes, it would honestly have been a favorite of mine. If possible, you should watch it with a friend who has already seen it, and have them warn you to close your eyes/ears during the scenes with vomiting. The singing and non-vomit-covered jokes are really enjoyable, that's why it ticks me off so much that they had to include the puke in the first place.

reply

i agree. had to skip over it. not my kind of humour

let's not go to camelot, it is a silly place

Projectile vomiting is funny when it's a stuck-up witch who's doing it.

We also know it's not real vomit -- it's fake.

I laughed.

reply

I'm glad you enjoyed it. But as for me, it didn't matter that I knew it was fake puke. It looked real enough to make me feel sick to my stomach for a couple hours, and feeling nauseated is not all that fun in my opinion. Weirdly enough, I have a pretty strong stomach when it comes to feces and urine, but vomit and snot really gross me out!!

I didn't really get it either. I actually hated the way it was shown, too. Her mouth would just suddenly drop open and she'd be spewing CGI orange chunks twenty-five feet across the room. Sort of off-putting to me. I know it was supposed to funny but to me, the way it was shown looked sort of un-human almost. Or maybe it's just me, lol...

Respect what you have 🌌

reply

Of course it's funny, it's puke. Puke is inherently funny, just like that staple of America's Funniest Home Videos, getting hit in the crotch.
