Music during the kill tapes literally makes me nauseous

It's not just the images in the videos, or them being paired with the music, but the music itself makes me feel sick in the pit of my stomachβ€” I almost have a visceral reaction to it. No joke. I remember seeing the film in theaters and feeling a wave of nausea come over me while watching the "BBQ" tape, and I think it's because the music is so demented.

The music in all of the tapes is awful, but the one from the BBQ tape is the absolute worst. It is ******* abhorrent and I have no idea why. I have not watched the film in its entirety since I saw it in the theater. I watched bits and piece of it from my friend's Blu-ray but I literally get a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach during the kill tapes. Can't do it. Anyone else physiologically freaked out by it? I'm not superstitious, but it's almost like they inadvertently captured something demonic in those goddamn sounds.

I found the music very disturbing, too, especially during the end credits.

Maybe the composer tapped into some infra-sound stuff? Google it, it's creepy as hell!

Were you watching on a really powerful or good-quality sound system? Maybe you should only watch it on some cheap speakers! ;)

Felt the same way. Reminds me of the music during the disturbing scene in "Irreversible". Fire extinguisher scene i think it was. Designed to make the listeners nauseous.

Googled:
"For example in 'Irreversible', the first 30 minutes there is a underlying sound frequency of 27hz - this makes you feel physically sick and disorientates you."
Another website explains the viewers for the opening night showing of the film walked out and complained of fear and nausea brought on from the soundtrack.

'Altered States' has this also, apparently.

Infrasound has been known to cause feelings of awe or fear in humans. Since it is not consciously perceived, it can make people feel vaguely that supernatural events are taking place

i feel you on the bbq tape lol.... it sounds like a satanic ritual narrated by Jim Morrison of the doors. truly creepy.

I actually liked the music, and the music used in the BBQ tape and Family Hanging Out tape, it's by a band called Ulver and I don't think that they ever intended for it to sound scary. It's an obscure and nostalgic song which is why the director picked it out for the film. But that's the great thing about music, there's no right or wrong way to interpret it. You either love it or hate it, it can mean nothing to one person and it can mean the whole world to someone right across the street from them. Ulver's music is usually very emotional and different to it can evoke certain emotions or memories for most people, and not all of these people have positive emotions when they listen to that sort of music. I do agree though that the kill tapes were disturbing, and Sinister has this sinister feeling that the main character, the Oswalt guy, is always being watched by something or someone dangerous. 😰

The music is disfigured intentionally, making it exaggerated creepy. The speed slows down and speeds up chaotically, half-a-dozen extra background tracks with periodic undefined/unclear noises (blowing wind, water sounds, leaves, metal scrapes, faint voices, etc.).

The sound editing was beautifully done for the goal of giving the audience a tightly clenched abdomen, anxiety build-up, tension.

The sound editing and Ethan's solid acting were the best parts of the movie for me.
