The ending was SO bad!!

It completely changed the characters.

The killer changed his MO when he wanted to torture Casey and not kill her like he killed Leah.
Jordan went out on the field and when she dropped her phone in the dungeon she made the decision to go after the phone instead of going to ask for help in another way?
Casey was this little cute teenager who cried thinking about what was going to happen and at the end of the day she stabbed the killer with a pair of scissors AND then suggested they should leave him there tied up to a chair?
Jordan agrees to the ideas of a 15 year old instead of calling her colleagues at 911 to report that they have the killer?

Also, now they have to lie saying that Jordan found Casey in the woods?
The police are going to want to know where she escaped from and why does Jordan have bruises on her...there's going to be questions. If by any chance someone will find the killer's body strapped to a chair, will no one take the prints from the chair / tape and other things in the room?
such a bad idea, this ending.

The biggest problem with the ending is that there is no chance in hell that the girls would get away with it.
Let’s look at the facts. If they stick to their story that Casey escaped and Jordan found her in the woods. That would mean for the police’s perspective that a kidnapper torturer and killer is still on the loose. They have already found the car nearby, and Caseys appearance at the same spot would lead to a massive search of the area.
It took Jordan about 2 minutes to find that hatch. Wonder how long it will take 50 police officers with dogs???
So instead of a sweet revenge. This movie logically ends with both girls in jail.

What is really scary is the amount of people posting here who were happy the girls got 'revenge'. What, by becoming killers themselves when they had someone out cold who could be arrested? Child killers have a pretty rotten time in prison from what I read, several life sentences of being sodomised by violent offenders would be pretty much rough justice if thats your thing.

What is a shame is that the film started off pretty well, then as soon as Halle Berrys character went off on her own it went dumb. There would have been experts analysing the recordings for background noise, the state would have been riddled with cops and agents after the killing spree and kidnapping, and that there were no cops examining the house so they could do that lame silence of the lambs ripoff ending? Please...

The kidnapped girl when from being a girly girl to a vengful maniac in a few hours when she would be a gibbering wreck. I cut myself shaving and have more blood loss than that deep incision across her forehead, which would hurt like ++++ by the way.

And why, for the love of god when you knock over a deranged madman would you not tie him up/ finish him off before turning your back on them - especially doing it twice!!!!

And whoever had an iphone that would survive a drop like that?

I didn't mind the ending so much.. sure it was convenient but not horrible... I would have loved it more if they showed the 2 women torturing the living hell out of the freak... making that bitch suffer in horrible ways would have been cooler... sure it is not PC but if someone had held me hostage.. there is no way I wouldn't release all sorts of *beep* on them if I got loose... they would live a long time with insane amounts of suffering ... so.. if anyone ever tries that with me.. they had best kill me and not give me any opportunity for revenge... especially if they don't have hoards of people to assist them...

sure it is not overly PC or in the realm of the freaked out victim... but it would be so much more satisfying if the victim got their revenge in horrible ways, making the bastard suffer before they killed them.... what fun is it to quickly kill the bad guy?

What they did to the murderer was about as bad as what the murderer did to the others he killed, it totally changed their characters. Bad ending, they should have called the police, arresed the guy, and then followed up, perhaps inject a twist at the very end of the credits that they never got the original killer and it sets up a sequel.

How could you not possibly like this ending? Badass! I noticed this comment and assumed they would die and was seriously stoked at this ending. Btw when he first abducted her, he reminded me of Jared Fogle with those glasses on lol

The only thing I didn't like was if your investigating a crime scene, wouldn't you take a gun with you? Detectives including dispatches have them.

I disagree way too hard and with actual arguments... Had the film not gone that route it would of been as forgettable as every single other attempt at this, there are many movies similar to this one, that have been forgotten through time, I think that I desired an epilogue so hard of them going to the movies and everyone happy, the ending will make me remember this movie. I do not think it changed the characters at all, I think they became human, maybe you are too used to archetypes and clichés.

The ending actually made this otherwise standard thriller much better, imho. I was afraid they were going to go the super corny/cliche route of having them going to that movie they both liked in the end. The surprisingly grim finish was vastly preferable to that. It's really the only thing that made this film memorable.

I think they wanted to set up a sequel. If the guy gets out somehow and comes back for revenge. That's the only thing that makes sense to me.
But there were so many way too convenient plot devices for me to take it too seriously anyway.
How did he get rid of the car and then make it back to the dungeon, presumably far enough away so that the cops would connect the car with the cottage location?
How did the cops never find the entrance to the dungeon? Presumably the did a thorough search of the area before determining it was a dead end.
How do you go into an underground dungeon and then cover up the door with dirt, etc, from inside?
Dropping her phone into the hole was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to convenient.

Sonny: Is there a country you'd like to go to?
Sal: Wyoming.
