Why the "failure" of this movie is bad news for movies in general

A lot of folks complain about the garbage Hollywood produces these days. Well, Hollywood produced BR 2049, a profound film that asks serious questions about what it means to be human, a movie that yields more and more upon multiple viewings. And the general public was just too fucking dumb to get it. Brace yourself for at least another ten years of unoriginal garbage, mostly because this attempt to make the kind of thought-provoking cinema Hollywood used to make "failed" miserably at the box office.

I have to conceed this one to you...

You are right, even though it is a sequel and even though it had too much 'fan service' for my taste and even though it set up things for a further sequel... It was still one of the more ambitious yet thoughtfull, decent-budget, wide-release movies from a major studio last year...

It's rivals were either European movies like Dunkirk, or much smaller American movies... Blade Runner 2049 was exceptional as a studio film. I have it on disc, having seen it in cinema and they really did try to do it properly, from the themes, the characterisation and story to the visuals and sound... Very high level and very reminiscent of what Hollywood used to make 15-20 years ago on a much more regular basis, but not as a copy, but rather as an heir to that kind of filmmaking... Big studio, good budget and a director and team that want to make their mark with something aimed at an adult sensibility...

Off topic but you need to see this film and share it with others: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAIeklIYFhQ&t=3577s

I think some things could have been done differently as well (I don't think Harrison Ford was necessary), but overall, it's a far cry from the other movies studios put out these days.

Nothing you could say was farther from the truth, this movie is BAD, it's empty, derivative and nothing more than digital teal and orange crap, get over it.
