Are the other seasons the same as the first?

I watched American Horror Story when it first aired. My memory is a little hazy but I remember thinking that the pilot was pretty interesting. Then I watched the rest of season 1, finishing it and thought it wasn't for me.

From what I recall, the pilot had a more serious tone, but then from episode 2 onward, the entire show took on this dark humor / comedy. Certain scenes were just plain goofy, and the horror part took a backseat. I was really disappointed with the tone of the show, and almost wonder if the pilot was made by someone else, or the writers just wanted to make it different.

Like I said this is from memory so maybe it's not 100% accurate. My question is: are the other seasons like the first? Do they go back to being more serious or scary, or does it stay comedic? I would be willing to give the series another try and its rated so high, but ugh, I am not a fan of dark comedy; I just like stuff to be creepy!

No, it's always been serious with very rare comedy elements. Seasons 2-4 had a similar atmosphere and vibes to the first season 1, Season 5 still holds up well, but Season 6 is where it started different.

The only seasons I didn't care about are the second half of Season 6, a few episodes of Season 8, the second feature of Season 10 and Season 11.

I'd say give it a try to Season 2 because it's considered the best season by fans. I also recommend Seasons 3-5 if you liked the second season. For the rest, I don't find it a must-see.
