I've never been a fan of his work. I was wary when I heard he was both writing and directing this, a favourite novel of mine from the 1980's.
Now that it's sunk without a trace, I'd like to lead the lineup to take a big dump on his desk!

Sadly, I don't think it will. He's won an Oscar, and he's written screenplays for a whole bunch of films that made huge box office, so he's not likely to go away that easily. Here's hoping I'm wrong!

He won't be hired to direct another movie. But if he was able to get writing jobs after the bad movies he made in the past, he'll keep getting it from now on.

I can only dream that would be so, but I highly doubt it.
I have not truly liked a single movie that he has been involved with (yes, that includes the ones everyone loves so much). Even when he has a good story to work with he like A Beautiful Mind, he changes it so much, and turns it into a saccharine, contrived, worn out piece of garbage that the stupid movie going masses eat up.
Maybe because he directed it too, he'll take a bigger hit though.

Pfff, its just a popular trope for drama and these always work. Look what kind of movies gets Oscars and you will very soon find out that most of the roles are very similar and fulfil certain tropes. Thats why we got so many Leo and Will Smith movies which follow these tropes, because they were literally begging to get one. This has nothing to do with a conspiracy, but just how Hollywood works. At least the last two years shows, that the Oscars getting more open to new tropes by allowing non-english culture movies.
