They never say where they are located?

I want to know were thes really expensive houses are? I would think they are in the north east cause they are always wearing warm clothing. But the surroundings never look like they are in a busy city where these 500k+ home would be expectable. They always look like they are in jst a normal areal like i live. I mean in texas or oklahoma you could buy homes in major cites and get a lot more then what these people are buying.

They're always in Canada, AFAIK, you can tell by the accents and once I saw license plates on a passing car

reply

LOL I thought that Canada was pretty obvious!

Although they never disclose their location, you can sometimes catch a glimpse of a store's name or a restaurant's name. If you will Google that name, often you'll get a street-view map of that business. If the street-view images of the store or restaurant matches what you saw during the TV show, you've tracked down the area that they are working.

For instance, as a resident of Austin Texas, I was surprised to see quick glimpses of the local skyline in a recent Property Brothers episode from Season Four where a condo was renovated. A closer frame-by-frame inspection showed "S. Congress Street" and "W. Elizabeth Street" signs and a glimpse of the iconic "Austin Motel" sign.

Then, the HGTV airing on 7/11 ("Picturing the Possibilities" with high school sweethearts Jacob and Lana) had that identical bridge-crossing and glimpse of the Austin skyline, but I didn't immediately recognize the other landmarks. However, the couple met the brothers at the Monument Cafe, so I Googled that name and it became apparent that the homes were in nearby Georgetown, TX.

Now I'm wondering how many other shows were recorded around Austin that I missed recognizing the location. One tell tale sign is that Jacob and Lana's budget was only $225k and the house was actually purchased for $145k. That's a guarantee that the buyers were NOT shopping in high-priced Ontario or Vancouver.

I had to laugh during both shows when the couple visited the brothers at their office to learn the proposed renovation plans for the two potential properties. The video showed the exterior of brothers' fancy high-rise office building, but you can be sure the couples did NOT travel all the way to that Canadian high-rise just to meet the brothers.

Perhaps the brothers will be visiting other U.S. cities in the future.

I think it started out in Toronto Canada but newer episodes are filmed in the US. You can always tell by the listing prices too. I think one brother actually lives in Vegas so I'm not surprised if they have expanded the show into the US.

Toronto and Austin.

They do shows in Canada, Nashville, Austin, the east bay area near San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and other places. I don't know why they don't want to say where they are in each show.

That always bugged me. You can tell they're trying really hard not to disclose the location. They even go out of their way to either avoid filming license plates or blurring them out.

I often wondered where these houses were seeing as how they ask for a fireplace. That wouldn't happen where I live in Florida.

reply

Really? In southern California, where fireplaces are definitely not necessary for warmth, they are and always have been very popular. Most houses here have them. People like a fireplace, just for aesthetics and atmosphere.

reply

Yeah, I've never really seen any fireplaces around where I live in South Florida. Maybe it's a regional thing or a bunch of Homeowners Associations (HOAs) decided they wouldn't allow it in their community.

I remember when my grandparents moved from New York to where I live now. They were having a house built in 1977. They wanted a fireplace but the HOA said absolutely not since if one house on the block had it, the others would need it as well. So they just continued building without making any alterations.

I thought it seemed pretty stupid. Something like that would add to the value of the home.

HOAs are from Hell.
