Please correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Tony Stark and the gang all know about Vibranium in AoU?

I mean Klaw gets his arm ripped off by Ultron on board a frigate in South Africa. The ship seemed to be carrying billions of dollars worth of Vibranium, something only available in Wakanda.

We've yet to meet Black Panther in Civil War by this point and so this knowledge being so common among The Avengers sort of negates the movie Black Panther's message about sharing their knowledge with the world.

I suppose it could potentially be worked around that only top-end players have this knowledge and that Stark and the gang are all in that group but that again goes against the Civil War issues with not having oversight and being free to do what one wishes.

Also Everett Ross seems to think Wakanda is a "Third World Country" and he's trying to get hold of Vibranium without any knowledge of where it is from - that seems particularly botched for an intelligence agency to not brief their front liners on.

If you can put me right I'd appreciate it!

We know, from Civil War, that Wakanda has a seat at the United Nations. And, since the father was one of the speakers for the United Nations in the events of Civil War, it leads one to believe that Wakanda has been a member of the United Nations for quite some time.

We also know from Black Panther that Wakanda purposely hides the existence and location of their ultra-modern city, presenting their nation as a backward, sheep herding, third world nation to the rest of the outside world. This would explain why Everett Ross (and the world in general) has the view of Wakanda that he does... so effective is the Wakandan subterfuge that the world at large thinks Wakanda is nothing but a bunch of poverty stricken, third world, sheep herders.

Let's also remember that Ross also thought that Klaue had stolen Wakanda's ENTIRE supply of Vibranium (leading to the scene where he tells Ross otherwise). So Wakanda has also VERY successfully controlled the mining, sale, and world-wide distribution of Vibranium... so much so that the other nations of the world have no idea of how much of the stuff exists.

So, it is safe to say that Wakanda has been controlling the world-wide distribution of Vibranium for generations. Most likely releasing a few pounds here and there, every so often, in order to raise capital for trade of other materials and services needed for the Wakandan's to build their society. The rest of the world thinks Vibranium is exceedingly rare (which is why Stark and others went to the lengths they did to get a hold of it), while Wakanda prevents the true nature of their society and the availability of Vibranum from becoming known.

That makes a lot of sense, thanks Jamfo!

I suppose the only other thing I would have on my mind then is how big was this meteorite which landed in Wakanda ten thousand years ago? I'm not going to lose sleep over it or anything but that seems like a lot of Vibranium to have struck the planet.

It's fun to toy with the ideas of the Marvel universe, I like your idea of Wakanda slowly allowing small amounts out into an economy which keeps its value high.

Thanks again!

The Vibranium meteorite myth is likely based on this iron one in Greenland: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_York_meteorite

If Vibranium is so strong how would they even cut it into pieces or work it?

reply

Thanks Satan!

I can see a few tonnes of iron being something which would be spectacular to watch hitting the Earth but for all that Vibranium required to build a city and all the other things it would be quite the explosion when it landed.

I've no idea how they would have cut it but, in the spirit of a comic book movie magic, it could be that the heart shaped herb that started growing near it could have guided those who took it on a hallucinogenic voyage of discovery similar to the ayahuasca brew made in the basin of the Amazon rainforest and explored in books such as The Cosmic Serpent or the documentary Night of the Liana. A kind of spiritual teaching of how to do things otherwise unthought of.

Crank that shit up to 11 and it could even be implied that the vital spark to critical thinking for all of mankind came from that experience in a similar story to the Prometheus lore.

If I'm not mistaken, Vibranium was in form of sand.

That would make a lot of sense TA!

I suppose they just treat it in certain ways and it becomes the magical metal that the Marvel universe needs it to be.
