Did you know that Spike Lee did a BP Cameo?

Featured the "Black Panther" comic book and character by name in his 1989 feature "Do The Right Thing".

I remember that scene (and had forgotten that scene) but was reminded of the connection when Kevin Smith made a video reference in his review of BP. So it looks like Black Panther and "Black" pride were in full display way back in 1989. It was also more aligned with Eric Killmonger in it's militancy.

How is Spike Lee a clown? He's done some pretty compelling movies.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen this film, so I’m just remembering this. Great scene, great Black Panther mention! Thanks for bringing it up.

Incidentally, Lee has his detractors for things he has said or the films he’s made (obviously) but I respect his contributions to cinema and more.

Trust me, everyone knows how outspoken Spike Lee is. But like this movie he should remain unapologetic and authentic.

He deserves a little shine for being "woke" long before everyone else became aware.

I’m in total agreement. There were many black artists speaking truth to power before Lee, but Lee does deserve kudos for the big role he had in all of this.

“Waah he race-baits”... love how Lee (and this film) is real and sticks to his guns. Colonizers hatin’ as always. :D
