Jaden's terrible accent ....

Seriously? If Will Smith wants his child to be an actor he needs get Jaden some voice lesson and work on the ghetto accebt he has. How is it that Will Smith doesn't speak that way and his child does?

Logan, buddy. It's me, Deadpool! I shot youuuuuu....

reply

After watching the movie, I pressume Jaden has a speech impediment.

I presumed he was dropped on his head as an infant and taken to a scientology missionary instead of a doctor.

In the movie everyone spoke with the fictional accent of the land that was created for the movie. He was supposed to have an accent.

reply

the main problem people have is that not everyone has the accent, and it varies between people, and that everyone seems to have their own accent.

basically it is just a stupid thing to add to the movie for no reason lol. It was just to try and make his character more complicated, and failed at doing so.

reply

Correct and the accents just sound stupid and comedic. They take away from the seriousness of some scenes.

You mean like any accent in any part of the world. There is no one accent in one place. Most people raised in Ireland have an Irish accent, but the Dublin accent is different to a Cork accent, or a Limerick accent, etc.

You go to New York and talk to ten people at random, most won't have the same accent, but they'll have a similar accent.

The accents were fine and it was a clever idea. The problem is that the world of Nova Prime is not sufficiently established enough for the accents to have a context. If the movie had taken more time to develop Nova Prime as a surrogate Earth, with it's own countries, borders and regional differences, then people wouldn't be so confused by it.

Beyond that it's just nitpicking. All the actors in Schindler's List have different (and sometimes silly) accents and that's attempting to be a serious historical movie; go nit pic that.

reply

It's not nitpicking, it's an inconsistency that is really distracting and takes a lot away from what little performance there is. Films are not bound by the same rules of reality, including tiny variants in accents.

reply

I don't think a made up "future" accent has ever been anything but distracting in a film. It's not like there was anything done with hair or clothing to really distinguish it as a different time. Accents is not something a film maker should bother with.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

reply

It's not like their clothing . . . really distinguishes it as a different time.

Ikea Rage is wearing a one-peice jumpsuit that changes color when a "hostile" approaches. That's futuristic.
Oh! and Spaceships, there's that.

(Maybe it's a West Philadelphia accent.)

There's a huge difference between "having an accent." and being unintelligible.
