I hate movies based on luck...

Is this how friends are made, because after the bike loaner we would never speak again.

This film didn't earn it's ending. We flashback to a whole bunch of things happening off camera that were never really strongly hinted at through the course of the movie. I mean I'm surprised they didn't go back and have Oliver in the delivery room when Felix was born.

A good version of this movie finds a way to hint at Oliver's deception while making you hope you're wrong about him.

Maybe that's the story as you would've told it. Doesn't mean this storyteller should told it that way. They chose a twist ending, which other stories like Murder on the Orient Express have used very effectively. When you remake this movie, you can do it your way.

I haven't seen Orient Express. I enjoy other movies like The Usual Suspects, The Prestige and Unbreakable where you pick up on a lot of hidden hints on a second watch. I don't see those being there for Saltburn.

Definitely the artist's choice but to my mind he could have thrown just about anything in the montage of deceipt. Maybe I would have appreciated it more if it was leaner with more left to the imagination, like just the pin in the bike tyre.

"I don't see those being there for Saltburn." They're not there bc that wasn't the author's intention. You need to learn to take a script on its own terms. Your claim that the film "didn't earn its ending” is nonsense. The writer wasn't obliged to set things up for you with so-called "hidden hints" bc that's what you like.

I agree, an often-plodding story culminating in this sudden spate of "reveals" (each more implausible than its predecessor) - didn't work for me either, no matter what the writer's intention.

The whole film he's portrayed as very manipulative and cold, from the moment he dropped his first weird friend.

Then when you find out the depth of his lies when you meet his parents I figured he was capable of anything, as soon as Felix turned up dead I suspected poison, especially with Oliver immediately being sick.
