With the worst ending ever created, this better not happen

I hope it does, probably direct to video. I would like to see what happens after that cool cliffhanger ending.

The ending was the best moment in the film! It really was great (As long as they do a sequel), and reminiscent of ideas from older science fiction. It was the one part of the film that really felt like they were taking a chance to be different from everything else out there, rather than just mashing together moments from other films (Which while fun, is still fairly obvious)

If a sequel really picked up, making things as interesting as the end, without the weaker elements of the first film, it could actually be great fun.

"The ending was the best moment in the film!"

I agree. I was disappointed the entire movie (resurrecting aliens? they never even had a chance), but the last 5 minutes of the movie (including the credits) made me want a sequel.

reply

I hope it does too. The ending makes me wanna see what will happen next with the Main character.

reply

It wasn't just a cliffhanger ending, it was a abrupt ending, and I left the theatre thinking to myself "What the hell was that all about!?"

reply

Yeah I might skip out on the sequel unless it has a really good trailer for it, which I doubt.

"We are going to DIE!"

I think the studios were getting too ahead of themselves. They thought with their fierce marketing campaign and low budget that it would automatically get good box office numbers.

They were wrong. Word of mouth and movie review sites have been overly negative, and the movie has made back it's budget barely and may gets a little back from DVD and overseas.

So unless they want to make a sequel to something that didn't make a lot of money that was very cheap to make and risk losing more money, Skyline 2 doesn't look likely.

You need to take into account the release of the latest Harry Potter film too. The distributors had on their hands this very flashy, very cheap film that they didn't really want to hang on to until the HP madness had subsided, so they rushed it out with a flood of marketing to grab as many people as they could before the release of HP (a franchise which no film can compete against until The Hobbit is finished). This undoubtedly hurt the film's profits, but the distributors didn't have to care due to its small budget. A sequel, I believe, would still make a tidy profit if they don't massively inflate the budget and if they release it at a quieter time. Already having the 3D assets needed is also a big plus and would let them come up with a more refined script for the same price.

reply

Wait... so a film that cost 10-20 million dollars and made 60 million in box office alone isn't profitable? A making 3-6 times what you spent is deemed unsuccessful in your mind? What in God's name is wrong with you, do you have a first grade math education or something?

reply

Why don't they make a video game instead?

reply

Something too similar called biohazard

reply

I liked the movie, and am glad there will be a sequal. The ending just about called for it. The movie had a 10Million dollar budget, and should easily hit 30 Million if not higher when all is said and done. Though it didn't make hundreds of millions in Gross, it will profit 3 to 1, a relative blockbuster.

Can't wait. Wouldn't be surprised if it went direct to video too, but really, less and less people are going to the theatre's anyway, so they'd be smart to market to video.

I think they got you. They left the ending incomplete like that on purpose to get the next price of a movie ticket.

They already had plans for the sequel before this one came out.

And the second one will probably be crappy too.

This Movie was incredible good and i`m happy to watch the sequel or buy the dvd. All the actors were very good and i don`t know why jakeballa is saying this because the story is quite very good and the special effects is excellent. And a gave it a 10 rating and very looking forward for the next one hope not to much of waiting

reply

sorry dude, it is going to happen, Skyline was a fantastic Scifi, certainly as good as Battle Los Angeles, one of my favourite films of last year and the film left it wide open for a sequel. It only cost 10mil to make so the fact that it took over $40mil at the box office means it was a success, shame that huh? that a sequel will get made? honestly I can't wait, as much for the fact that I loved the first one as for the fact that I will get an immense satisfaction knowing how pissed off all the stupid haters will get when it comes out hehehe

Huh? Skyline was NOTHING AT ALL like Biohazard?

I'm 100% sure that there won't be a sequel. The movie was a big flop, made only 20 million dollars. They spent 10 mil on it (I'm sure it was more), now add the advertisement, etc. They lost a big money on it. Who would be so stupid to finance the 2nd part?

reply

Good special effects, and potentially a good story that was let down by poor script writing and awful delivery from the actors.

As of 5th December the films has made approx. $47 mil worldwide which on a $10 mil budget (which would usually include marketing costs) is good enough going to generate a sequel. (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=skyline.htm)

If reports are correct then the concept was sold to the studio as a 2 part story, it is likely that unless the film lost the investors money then the concluding part would automatically go into production. If it goes on major release or straight to DVD would be the question.

reply

I did not see this movie as awful delivery from the actors---so I disagree on that front (& I am in no way related to any of them nor do I know any of them personally). I thought they did just fine with what they were given.

I do think the marketing was perhaps off a bit, focusing so much on the syfy component -- and there were people who hated the movie even before it came out.

Having said that, I doubt the sequel, if it happens, should go to major release. Lots of that revenue ($47M) came from people not really knowing what the movie would deliver & for many, unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. So I think a direct to DVD option would make more sense, at least that's my opinion.

Well, you'd be 100% wrong then. The first movie made over $45 million worldwide and only cost $10 million to make. It made $20 million in the U.S. alone. So they actually made a decent profit from this movie. We're not even counting DVD sales, which were pretty good I believe. I couldn't even find the DVD/Blu-Ray when it was released. So a sequel will definitely happen, but I'll be surprised if it comes out in theaters. Most likely it will be straight to video. I can't see them making 3 more of these films.

haha fag eveyrone wants this to happen because it was actually a good, totally unexpected ending. who the hell thought at the begining of the film, or even when there was 5 mins left that, "ohh this guys brain is going to take over one of those alien bitches and get tough". noooo one. thank you hollywood for giving us at least one twist we werent expecting, and that your true beauty can only come through in B-movies apparently.. if you dont know what im saying watch knight and day.. *beep*

reply

Why? No one will force you to watch it?

reply

If there's gonna be a sequel they better make it good. I really had hopes for this flick, just to lay back and enjoy some sci-fi but the flashy high roller beginning coupled with no character development ruined it. There were moments when they could've put some depth into the characters but it never happened. It didn't feel like Jarrod and Elaine even were a couple, total lack of emotions. And personally I really don't like Eric Balfour. So thinking that he won't be in the sequel other than as a (hopefully silent) alien, it may actually be better than the first....
