Best Mars based film ever is...

Capricorn One

The Last Days on Mars = The Running Dead, 'cause the gravity is less than Earth the zombies can move quicker!

I hope a movie adaptation is made for the Andy Weir novel "The Martian", truly excellent.

This movie had a lot of potential in terms of the realism of the limited technology, the way the habitat looked and the rovers and the suits and all.

The bad parts - besides the whole zombie crap - were the disregard for the actual conditions of Mars (38% gravity, subzero temperatures, radiation) and the crew dynamics. There's no way the crew would have that much animosity for each other.

I also vote for Mission To Mars. It's one of the more serious and enjoyable films. It's flawed of course, brought down by some ridiculous stuff. Still, it's the best Mars film out there. (That I've seen)

Red Planet sucks, a dumb action flick loaded with cliches and ridiculous plotting.

Total Recall is a classic film but its portrayal of Mars is also ridiculous.

Rocketman, though a silly family film, is enjoyable. My second favorite Mars film. :-)

Robinson Crusoe on Mars is a neat film but completely unrealistic. I give it slack though because we really didn't know much about Mars even in 1963/early 1964.

I tried watching The Angry Red Planet on Netflix a few months ago but I fell asleep both attempts. :-S

This movie...some of it is slick and good looking, some of it is incredibly stupid. Oddly I was most annoyed by the base camp "red alert" which makes it virtually impossible to move around the base. The alert sound is annoying. But they had to do it because it was scary!

Really? Mission to Mars? Really?? Uggh I hated that movie.

I know it's not popular, but I liked Red Planet.

I liked Red Planet too. A great soundtrack as well.

Right now I'd say it's "Mission To Mars" but I'm totally psyched about the prospect of "The Martian" being made into a movie. Novel by Andy Weir is awesome and rumor has it that Ridley Scott would direct and Matt Damon would star.

Obviously the best is that most serious of Mars-related films.

Mars Attacks!

"Dave, stop. Stop, will you? Stop, Dave. Will you stop Dave? Stop, Dave."

I completely agree, except you've chosen the one film that isn't about Mars, is it?.. I don't think this really counts as a spoiler, because Capricorn One (1977) is now nearly 40 years old... I'd sort of forgotten how good the cast was, though...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...

Does The Martian change the answers to this topic?
