Wow, that was horrible

I totally understand why Syfy didn't pick this up. There's just no substance there at all. The repetitive actors and really bad green screen were extremely distracting, and the plot was just so-so. There was zero character development, and I found myself hoping that the cylons woud just wipe these guys out, so something interesting would happen.

I finally got around to finishing it. Yeah, it was pretty bad. Had it gone to series, it may have found its footing. But in its current form, it's the worst BSG-verse thing I have seen. The writing was cheesy and shallow and the effects ranged from dodgy to just plain ghastly (mostly the chromakey comps, and how they used awful lens flares to try and cover it up). There was nothing interesting going on. A lot of the time I felt like I was watching a remake of the Razor webisodes. Other times I felt like I was watching a poorly-conceived fan film.

Totally. I was so excited about it until I actually watched it. :(

I just found out this had come out. So did a lot of my friends who are BSG addicts.

I suppose this really wasn't advertised properly and the youtube series is "Not available in your region" could be why this show isn't getting that many hits.

I'm in Australia so I am wondering which other countries are also getting the same message.

So I watched the series as 1 whole episode that had been edited together and it was actually rather amazing. I don't understand why people are not liking it as it is more true to BSG than Caprica was.

As a pilot this was amazing introduction for William Adama and I do hope they pick this up as there are so many thing they can do with it. They haven't even added the political aspect of the war and other key characters.

reply

Yes I am surprised at how many criticize this show. Oh yes that's right, it's because there are so many scifi shows to pick from.............

reply

I just finished watching the first 3 episodes, and so far, it is great.

At the end of episode one it says "on the next episode", then shows you a scene 9.30 minutes into a 10.30 minute show. That's how little happens of interest in this show. Then for the second time in as many episodes there's a problem with a weapon being jammed. Followed by "On the next episode: Our guns are jammed!". Repetition without substance. Fake drama for the sake of it. Bring back BSG or Caprica please.

UPDATE
Just made it through to the finale. It was terrible the whole way through. For fans of the space battles in BSG only, anyone who found the politics and religion in BSG 'boring' will love this. Absolutely no substance to it at all. Very shallow. But wait, what happened in the finale? Gun ran out of bullets. Again! How many times did they use gun jammed/missile locked jammed/out of ammo as their sole point of drama in this pilot? About 6! No wonder the series was dropped the series. It was going no where.

reply

Yeah, I thought it was pretty bad.

And maybe I'm a little confused but aren't pilots supposed to introduce the main characters and setting of a show? Not introduce minor characters ignore em. Then introduce main characters and kill em off. Then reintroduce the minor characters as major characters?

And the actor who played Adama yuck! The guy doesn't even look like him! What happened to the guy who played the younger Adama? He was a better actor and kinda of looked like the older Adama.

I totally concur! Just to compare I picked up some random episodes from the "original" BSG (2004–2009). There you find a genuine well thought-out story with characters and actors that really fit the script, a well carried out decoration and the average quality of the filming is actually quite good. Hell, even the best possible level of acting in Blood & Chrome" doesn't come near the lowest level in the "original" series.

Film making technology is more or less affordable to anyone nowadays. But where the hell has the imagination and good storytelling gone ??

Any true BSG fan would appreciate and love anything in the Battlestar Galactica Universe. I thought this was awesome. Maybe you guys should stick to my little pony.

i was hoping at the very end of the movie the hundreds years old half-man half-robot Bill Gates would be sitting in the throne with thouands of robots kneeling in front of him

Losing all hope is freedom.

When Adama decided to frak Lieutenant 'BigFace' Miranda Lawson, I was like /rolleyes you gotta be kidding me.

Seriously. To insult our intelligence like that was beyond measurement. What a totally and completely unnecessary scene in any Battlestar works, ever.

I also didn't like it how we get to see Battlestar Galactica's tram system, which takes Adama and Marv to the bridge. That wasn't in Battlestar Galactica, at all. And if it was removed after the war? Why?

Then once we get to the bridge we see LED/LCD panels EVERYWHERE, and the bridge looks totally different than the reimagined Battlestar Galactica's bridge--which takes place many decades later, completely destroying continuity.

reply

Because it's a prequel, smart guy. Of course everything is going to look different.

And getting butthurt over a love scene in the BSG universe? Get the hell over it. Young Adama is naive and romantic, still developing his hardened skepticism, as it should be.

You are just fishing for criticisms at this point. Good movie, well made and a worthy addition to the BSG universe.

A lot of high tech junk was pulled out of the Galactica during refits and upgrades.
This would imply that, at one point, the ship had a lot more tech.
They explained this several times in BSG.

Also, keep in mind that it was about to be decommissioned and turned in to a museum due to its age and condition, so already not running at complete battle readiness when the Cylons attacked.

Also also, flashy screens doesn't automatically equal better gear.
Could've easily been replaced with other equipment during the refit.

If anything, it's one of the continuity things they got relatively right.
