A GREAT movie (don't be fooled by the hate)

OK, I came across this film the day it came out. I wanted to watch this mainly because I love magic-themed movies and the cast in this one is great. When I visited this board I was stunned by all the hate. I was hesitant, I didn't feel like watching it and I didn't, until now.

Wow. Now I'm really confused about all this hate. In a world where every single thing has been made into a movie, I just can't understand why this one gets slammed. All this hate made me think its a 3-star worthy cheap garbage but how wrong was I?

The cast shines! The visuals are great, the plot is very clever and keeps you going, makes you think and the ending is... well, a twist! The best thing part is, you feel like you're just a person in their crowd, you think the tricks are real until they're exposed.

No offense, I can understand if you just didn't like the film but calling it "the dumbest plot ever" is beyond me. I mean, cinemas are now filled with Marvel and DC movies, I don't think an illusionist is much dumber than a superhero that turns green (no hate, I love superhero movies).

I just wanted to offer a good review to balance things out a bit.

Agreed. I loved the movie, great ending. I wish more movies were like this. I get easily bored of many movies, but this one kept me going from start to the end.

Could not disagree more, it is in fact, a total shart fire made for idiots. The plot is nowhere near clever because it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. It's so dumb I don't even know where to start. But what's the point, you're probably one of bots who are paid to boost ratings and troll discussion boards. Good luck in life.

So, if Marvel and DC movies are dumber than this, it means this is a good movie, is that it? This movie is so convoluted and dumb, I felt my neurons wither and disperse, it's definitely one of the worst movies of the past 10 years.

it's not something i'd watch again and again, but ok all in all

i just saw it for the first time and i loved it as well. I think there are pretentious people that just like to hate. There are movies that are supposed to be realistic (i.e. Schindler's List) and movies that are intentionally not supposed to be realistic (i.e. just about every super hero movie, the fast and furious franchise and others too numerous to mention).

This film achieved what it set out to do. The filmmakers weren't going for realism and to force that criteria on them is unfair and misses the point. I could go on about how Superman's power of flight defies physics in numerous ways or how so-and-so would have died from that fall instead of walking away unharmed but i see each film for what it is supposed to be.

I am a fan of all types of films, from the Godfather to the Fast and Furious franchise but i don't judge them all the same way any more than i would say that a steak is not as good as an orange because it's not sweet.

Exactly my feelings. It felt so FRESH. With an excellent cast. And great tricks, although some hardly plausible. And then, who cares.. It was about magic after all.

What the heck is wrong with some people.

I wouldn't call it great, but definitely a good movie.
