Why was Ray getting back with his ex-wife a good thing?

In the movie, we are supposed to be happy that Ray (HHH) got back with his ex-wife, why was this a good thing? In an earlier scene, his ex said that her new husband was great and that he adored her daughter. Why did she leave him to go back to a loser like Ray? Was it because her new husband was a geek?

Agree 100%. I was kinda disappointed with ending and I really thought that Marvin got the shaft.

Because he is the action hero, he gets the wife, the kid, and anything else he wants.

She wasn't married yet to the second guy. Besides, if I had to choose between Triple H and Enrico Colantoni...gee, what a tough decision! ;-)

Do we know for sure she wasn't married to Marvin? I don't remember it saying either way.

But yea, I thought them ending up together was really odd as well.

Ever consider that she probably just fell back in love with Ray-Ray all over again?

In spite our best intentions, true love always wins out.

Also - I felt zero 'chemistry' between Marvin and Lynne. His 'geekiness' had little to do with it. Almost like Robert Redford & Phyllis Diller.

They weren't married, at one point when he's talking to that lady on the radio he says something about his ex-wife's "bf."

The ex-wife had divorced him, years earlier, when Sally was little - after he went to "the pen" for his role of Accomplice during a previous armed robbery. Watch the film again :)

Sally tells him during their field trip lunch that her mom cried for weeks after he'd "left" (gone to prison), but then eventually pulled herself together, and made a life for the two of them.

they were not married, he was going to propose to her, remember he placed the ring on the table when he was calling her down for dinner. therefore they were not married yet.

reply

Good catch, I just thought he was trying to plan a romantic dinner. They really tried to make Marvin the bumbling fool because he couldn't figure out the electronics in the house, the least they could have done was make him out to be an insensitive jerk.
I know it was a happy-sappy ending where everybody gets back together but Marvin really got the shaft. Overall, it wasn't a bad movie, just not real well written.
Triple H was actually pretty good in it.

This thread is much more entertaining if you imagine the OP being Marvin himself. "How could she go back to that loser!?" ha.

That's just how some movies are. I mean look at that guy in Liar Liar. Steve or whatever his name was. Both the main women in the movies could have easily married these men and probably have been ok but they chose the man they likely fell in love with many years ago. Once you fall for someone like that you always hold out hope that they will change their ways and be the man that woman always believed they can be.
