This movie is for people who 'get it'

You shouldn't even have to ask what "it" is. People who know will like this movie.

I loved this movie but my husband didn't like it at all. That is weird to me this movie was hilarious.

Yeah, people really don't get the guys from "The State". It's quite a shame that this, WET HOT, THEY CAME TOGETHER, etc. have such low ratings on IMDB and shows like "Stella" get canceled. No one is trying to be pretentious. We think the comedy is smart but it's also stupid in a great way. Wain/Marino/Showalter/Lemmon excel in absurdism comedy. You either get it or you don't. No shame if you don't, though I get sick of the "worst film ever" threads. I love that these guys will only ever have a niche audience.

I don't think that there is any "it". The whole tone of this thread title implies that if you don't like this movie, you have missed "it" and you are clearly a lesser person. I have really enjoyed all the Wain films i have seen, but can understand why some people don't like them. The humour has a whole flavor that either strikes you or it doesn't. Fortunately for me - it strikes me right on target - I have seen this film about 25 times and I could watch it tomorrow with relish. (and I saw it last night)

It is absurdism. Watch Andy Dick, Michael Hitchcock, Bob Odenkirk, and Kate Flannery in Danny Roane: First Time Director and ask yourself why that clever, ridiculous movie has a 4.6 on imdb. Watch Rob Corddry, Nat Faxon, Will Sasso, and Kyle Gass in Lower Learning and ask yourself why that clever, ridiculous movie has a 3.9 on imdb. Because most people don't get absurdism.
