I liked it

Not as much as the first one but a little more than I expected to. As you'd expect it looks wonderful - better than it did in the trailers. There wasn't anything particularly original about the story but I think they've established a whole new set of characters and I'm guessing the long term plan is to weave story lines for all of them.
If I have any quibbles, it's too long, and perhaps a bit self indulgent. It's a little like a nature documentary at times and I'm sure you could shave 30 minutes off (at least for a cinema release) which would make the last 15 minutes or so more comfortable to enjoy. Failing that, an intermission at the 2 hour point for a quick pee and a coffee would do the trick.

I loved it. People always talk about the lack of originality, but you can say that about pretty much every blockbuster these days.

That said, there are some original things.

SPOILERS!

A liquid from whales that stops human again? Never heard of that before.

Humanoids that have a lifetime connection with the whales? New to me.

And there are others.

I absolutely agree with your comments. You did the job for me 😉

THAT IS FAIRLY CLOSE TO WHAT I HAVE BEEN HEARING FROM OTHERS WHO HAVE OPINIONS I USUALLY AGREE WITH.
