who else could have played her?
I thought Charlize was fabulous in this role. I'm wondering who else could have done such a great job in this role? Gwyneth Paltrow?

I can't picture anyone else playing Mavis quite as well as Charlize. The devil's in the details & she nailed them all.
shareYes yes yes. She may have won the Oscar for "Monster", but as far as I'm concerned THIS is the movie that places Charlize
Theron in the big time. She's just so brutally real in this part. We all knew this girll in high school, didn't we? Spectacular performance by Charlize, Patton Oswalt and the whole cast. As well conceived a character study as I've ever seen.
Not sure she is really acting though.
For some reason I LOVE this movie watched it 3 times in row (last week) while I was painting a mural at a client's house.
They came in a few times and gave me the eye when they saw I was watching it again. Lol
As a renaissance chick, I paint, write, and sing loudly off-key.

shareI think a younger Uma Thurman would have been nice.
Sally, I think I'll buy the flowers myself.
Sandra Bullock. She is actually really good in dramas. A younger Nicole Kidman. Katie Holmes. Natalie Portman.
shareToni Collette.
I was thinking this all the way through. Toni does bad moods/angry/bitter with that twist of comedy that I feel Charlize didn't quite bring to this role. She brought the bitter and angry just fine, as she is a good drama actress, but the "funny" wasn't in her bitterness the way Toni Collette can do that blend.
Indeed Toni Collette would be great as well.
