Did she really not change until she got back to the White House?
That's a little crazy. That was a lot of blood. You'd think someone would have had a solution to get her out of the blood stained dress.

Too gruesome to contemplate. I don't think anyone wanted to argue with Jackie at that point. They just allowed her to do what comforted her.
It did make for some iconic photos. No one who ever saw them could forget what actually happened that day

shareOh that's what I figured you were doing. I was responding more to the OP who deemed Jackie's behavior "crazy". I wonder just who wouldn't be half-crazed after witnessing what she did? And the Kennedys had just lost an infant son a few months earlier. I don't know how Jackie kept it together at all!
shareNobody was going to argue with Mrs. Kennedy at that point, and things also happened VERY fast. From the motorcade to the hospital to Air Force One, she was back in Washington a few hours after things went bad.

Which was exactly her point. That was not made up for the movie. She specifically did not change because she wanted the world to see what they did to her husband and the father of her children.
It was not because she was in shock. She was past that. She was on task. And she was angry.
That scene where she asked the ambulance driver if he had ever heard of Garfield or McKinley, it was adapted for the movie, but is telling. Everybody knows about Lincoln, but who remembers Garfield or McKinley? How many people know who they are, or their first names without Googling it first?
She was going to make damn sure the world remembered JFK.
