Boring and full of itself

I thought it was quite the opposite of boring. Pacing was good, tight structure and always something interesting in every scene. And it was funny. Never thought a film about economics and finances could be told in such an interesting and entertaining way. One of the best films of 2016.

Yup the best. Beats Spotlight --a nice film-- easily.

I got to agree Margin Call was better. Also better than that there are several great documentaries (Inside Job) (PBS Frontline) on the housing bubble that in my opinion are more entertaining. I don't know something about this film gave me the same impression as the OP.

Boring as *beep*

When you have to bring in hot chicks to explain the intricacies of banking and finance definitions in hopes that the audience is still with you, you know your script sucks.

Either that or the subject matter was considered inherently uninteresting to most of its would-be viewers.
Margot Robbie was brought in precisely because they estimated the average viewer's attention span to be marginal. Which, IMO, is more of an indicator of the current mentality of Americans in general. Here we are dealing with something that very much had the capacity to end our current way of life, and we'd really rather not be bothered to try and understand it unless there's something shiny attached. Something that makes it "worth it" to us.

IMO, these "tricks" are more a reflection of the audience than of the filmmaker and/or the script. And what's ironic about that is that this same scenario is likely to repeat itself time and again, the US is that much more apt to slip into even more of a plutocracy BECAUSE of the ignorance of the American populace, and our self-serving lack of attention span.

Its disheartening to see so many decrying this film as "boring" when that very attitude, that kind of detachment is what will eventually lead to the collapse of the capitalist system. And if you think that's dramatic or exaggeration, then IMO, you're just not as much of a thinker as you might need to be.
