Keira Knightley is just painful to watch.

Seriously painful. Cringe-worthy. That accent was atrocious and her general performance ruined everything for me. I couldn't even finish watching the movie, ugh.

How did it make you feel when you saw Keira on the screen? Were there any dreams associated with the experience?

reply

I don't know what it is but she annoys me.

her performance was very weak specially her "crazy" scenes.

overall a good movie I thought Both Fassbender and Mortensen were excellent

Just seen this film. Kneightley ruins it with her forced, ham acting. Obviously thought that she was going to get an oscar for her performance! Her accent is also awful and constantly changes. Fassbender is reliably natural and comfortable in his role but Mortensen is badly miscast with his ridiculous prosthetic nose!
I still enjoyed it for being so bravely anti-commercial and slowly paced.Having rewatched scanners the other day tho, I wish Cronenborg would get back to sci-fi and horror.

She's supposed to annoy you - she's a completely *beep* up neurotic. I bet you prefer the more seductive 'why-so-serious' guy from Batman. Oh well.

reply

As you are just painful to read, even for a few seconds.

She's not the best actress in the world ...

Keira was wonderful. The only reason i watched this film actually. She now has serious acting chops to go with all her beauty.

I thought she was excellent. I can understand why people have problems with her accent - but at the end of the day she was directed to have that accent, so I don't think the blame should rest on her shoulders nor be indicative of her ability with accents generally - she's actually quite skilled with accents IMO, particularly a variety of British accents.

As to her actual performance - again I thought she was brilliant. She makes you uncomfortable and it's 'painful to watch' exactly because she is severely mentally ill in these scenes. Hysteria is an illness that doesn't exactly go hand in hand with subtlety. Her contortions and physicality of her performance were brilliant. Better yet, the way she has hints of these remaining whilst she is 'cured' is even better - whenever an emotional situation happens she is battling against her illness once more. Her intellectual scenes you can see the fire of passion behind her eyes and how much she really wants to practice in her own right.

I thought she was great. I understand why people felt it was 'over the top' - but I do honestly believe this in part to be a slight ignorance of the character in question... Perhaps having a little more understanding of hysteria generally would have helped. Never the less it was always going to be a divisive performance and I respect the opinions of those who, understanding the character in question, still disliked her performance.

Just finished watching the movie - all I can say about KK is that I never found KK to be good actress and this role just sealed my opinion about her.
But beside KK and her overacting, the movie is decent piece of art, to watch for one time only.
