Anti Christian?

I've watched the first part, and so far, and I found it very upsetting. Why is it that whenever I see a film with christians in it, they're alwyas presented as ignorant bigots who have no right to claim Christ as their savior. Just once can I see a hollywood film where Christians actually act like Christians, or atleast a film where one can be a believer and also be intelligent.

They were so close minded. It's a small southern town. There had to be some kind of conflict . Though I understand what you are saying is why use the religion aspect of making Christians seem looney. It's too bad. A lot of Christians befriend different types ..if not all all types of people. They are less strict in my book.

reply

I don't see this movie as "anti-Christian," but against the judgmental, mean-spirited Christianity that is a part of the religion (as I'm sure it's a part of every religion). I'm a Christian, and I'm embarrassed to see so many people who call themselves Christian acting just like the Christians in this movie. There are countless movies where characters are Christian and they're nice people - showing the mean, judgmental side of the religion is a pretty recent phenomenon from what I've seen.

reply

Tgurlie I agree. But the other fact is that there are actually these so called "Christians" out there. I know a few personally. And though I try my hardest to be the best Christian I can be I do not see how they can call themselves that!

There are plenty of anti-Muslim Films . You just have to know where to look . Then , there`s satirical shows like " South Park " who show the best and worst of pretty much every religion , philosophy or clique in a humorous manner .

Whenever Christianity is included, we get Children of the Corn types and freaks like that lady Marcia Gay Harden played in The Mist.

But it's makes for such a creep factor. LOL I love watching religious freak creeper shows.

what do you mean so called christians...lke people who follow god that dont go to your church...other jewish people if they follow god they are just as much christian as you they are just jackasses is all.

reply

Judaism and Christianity are two separate religions. Mind you, one stemmed from the other, but they are classified as separate religions nonetheless.

"There was a time I didn't know you." "That was in the third grade!"

reply

both follow the same god either way. I was trying to point that yes people are just relgious but are more jackass then anything else

reply

I never respond to posts on here, but had to reply to this. Jewish people are not Christians; you're a Christian is you believe in Jesus Christ and that He is God. That He is the Messiah that scripture talks about. Most Jewish people don't believe that and therefore, are not Christians. There are Messianic Jews who believe in Jesus, but that's a branch of Judaism.

And so called Christians are people who claim to be believers but who don't practice what they claim to believe. It's not about whether they go to church or not. Lots of people go to church every week, but then go out and don't apply what they've learned. And lots of people can be strong in their faith and live out their beliefs but never go to church. That's not the issue.

reply

actually that is the catholic definition of being a christian...originally it meant one who follows christ, as in one who emulated his behavior, being kind to people, feeding them, clothing them...someone who really tried to live as christ and act as he did...not someone who believed he was god incarnate...

i think that the definition changed later once the religion became a tool of the state and in order to be a christian you had to believe the doctrine...which is contrary to what christ taught by example...

most "christians" today claim to follow christ but are actually following a state corrupted version of christ...and do not really emulate or act as christ at all...and this is accurately portrayed in the film...

dont believe it? the roman catholic church is a state religion straight from the playbook of the new world order...it was yet one more attempt at universally forcing one religion on the then known world...for political gain...to homogenize a population behind one form of governmnet and belief system...

catholic means universal, as in forced...and that is how it began...

now it is just de facto belief that propagates the same basic doctrine, in a more loose sense, instead of rigid tyranny it is psychological...because it has been repeated for so many years it has become accepted as perfectly normal...when it is anything but normal...

the jewish religion started much the same way, as a tool of a government to unify a nation behind one god, one belief system and one government...only difference is it was not used to create or refurbish a huge empire as catholic christianity was...but it was still the same form of tyranny...or rather the original philosophy was corrupted and turned into a state run propaganda machine, brainwashing, and abuse...but that is not as obvious a tyranny today because the core belief system is shared by so many sects that disagree on the pettiest things...

personally i see the ultra religious as victims and not the core problem...but many of them take the attack on their favorite belief system as personal instead of an attempt to expose the flaws in it...

hollywood or other social institutions use christians (or any other religion for that matter) as targets because there is an agenda at play...to divide people into opposing groups and keep the focus off the real culprits pulling the emotional strings...

Lifetime had a movie where she was a black christian and he was a white jew and there was a lot of goodness between the two of them. I forget what its called at the moment.

Also, the Amma? lady said she goes to church every Sunday because she believes in God. She's a good woman. Also she said that its people who decide what God made was a mistake, not God. Talking about how SMALL TOWN folks are narrow minded. (mostly because they're bored and lazy (in this film)).

" Normal " is a subjective classification with no basis whatsoever in empirical science . Mainstream society is filled with tedious norms , laws and mores . A few of which are based in common sense ( Don`t kill except in self-defense in extreme situations , don`t steal unless your family really needs food and you can`t get it any other way , don`t hurt someone except in self-defense ) . Most , however , are entirely arbitrary .

how do they depict Asian people in movies? how do they depict Hispanic people? African American people? people with mental disease? feminists?
Hollywood is made of stereotypes because they are useful in telling a story or they are helpful to make jokes.
Hollywood loves stereotypes because they don't have to write interesting complex characters (They only have 1 hour and a half to tell a story)

But none of that matters right? It only matters when they are making fun of Christians. That's the only time it matters. the only time it bothers you. who cares about the rest of the world.
It only matters when it makes you feel bad. like a good Christian, only thinking about yourself (sarcasm)

Stereotypes suck, but why do you act like you are the only one being affected by it? we ALL ARE...

reply

"Christians believe they have the right to condem anything or anyone different."

Any Christian who believes that they have the right to condemn anything or anyone different is NOT acting like a true Christian. This is the problem with human nature. People aren't perfect and they tend to judge. Being a christian might mean you don't agree with something but it's certainly not our place to judge or treat anyone harshly.
