Crappy Streaming Content Title

If I see something with a title like this on Netflix, Amazon Prime etc. I usually skip it, purely because the title is so shit.

Should I also skip this?

reply

The title is part of what drew me in. And cover art. And A24.

But I dipped about half way in. Cool aesthetically, but not really horror-y...more of a drama. The whiny baby whites are claiming it's a trans allegory. I didn't see any. Regardless of what even writers say, if you have to go out of your way to read external articles to find hidden meanings then it might as well not be there, so that's a fail. But maybe the guy randomly turns transgender at end of the movie or something, I don't know.

If you're not one of those who are horrified that a movie will turn you transgender, might as well ignore the title and act accordingly. There's no connection.

I am happy to find another person who thinks like me!

I don't think this movie is about being trans at all, that's a toxic lecture made by people (the own director, I guess) who can't understand the existence of an omega male (or woman, but principally men) if he isn't mutilated, basically, a thought I find very dangerous, btw.

The film is about the isolation of two persons connected by fiction, and Owen problems didn't have any relation with being a woman but with his family, his personality, etc., Mutilating his body wouldn't make him happy, it would just probably make his life even more miserable. But is true the ending is dissapointing, the film gives t¡you clues about another dimension, Twin Peaks style, but finally that's skipped. Good experience, anyway, and the actress is truly incredible.

reply

Wait so was there some potential body mutilation in the movie? What happens in the end? Don't even worry about spoiler tags; something tells me a Movie-Title Movie Judger doesn't care about spoilers. 😄

reply

The very last sentence of the film implies he is transitioning, but exactly as you pointed in your message, for me the film is perfectly valid without that trans view, maybe because all the trans stuff is an unnatural and toxic thing promoted for reasons I don't really understand (money, probably).

I guess you too understood the two protagonists as two fucked up individuals for their families, contexts, not because they don't identify with their gender or whatever. It's true the film implies there is a paralell reality, Twin Peaks or Matrix style, and that they are trapped in a simulation, but I think the director didn't have the balls to follow that fantastical path, and simply ends like a drama of an omega man whose only good experience in life was watching a soap opera with a girl she liked. Implying the solution to his problems is transiitioning of sex is crazy for me, although fortunately the film isn't propagandist at all.

reply

Well I don't necessarily agree with you on transgenders but regardless, it's the line about being on medication I take it.. I checked it out.. still not clear to me but maybe I have to have seen the whole thing. It's good to know it did have a point by the end though.

reply

But only that comment. He is an inadaptated introvert person, but society (in USA principally) now understands if you are that way you have to change your sex ( which i guess we all agree is impossible, for now at least).

How did you understand the whole movie, for curiosity?

reply

No I dipped about half way in.. turned it off. Basically nothing happened. I saw some kind of fantasy world, outcast kids awkwardly bonding over a show. Couldn't tell you where it was going because I lost interest at that point. It wasn't the horror I hoped to expect and the story and characters weren't holding me at that point. But there certainly wasn't any transgenderism and if I thought there would be an allegory, I should have at least been able to identify it by the half way mark. So it seems especially by the last line only, that it must be one where only certain pre-primed mindset people see it, perhaps.

reply

But did you watch the full movie or not?

reply

No, I stopped at about the half way mark of the movie. Then I watched the last scene with the supposed transgender line. I have no intention of finishing it.

reply

Oh but is a good film, I recommend you to finish
it! It has some really disturbing moments, like when Mr Melancholy appears, did you see it?

reply

The director has literally said it's about being trans

reply

Yes, but It can be understood without It, so it doesn't Matter what he said. Films transcends the intentions of their creators, fortunately in this case.
