It Follows + The Ring = Smile
Proving that the whole is not always greater than the sum of its parts. Still a pretty enjoyable movie though, and a cool entity villain.

Not quite.
It Follows is basically a vicious demon monster that follows you around as soon as you're "tagged" via sexual intercourse by someone It was already following, and brutally murders you once it catches up with you.
Smile's demon basically jumps into and inhabits your soul once you witness it drive someone it is already possessing into a brutal suicide, possibly devouring their soul just before, that's why the girl in the first scene seemed to go into a trance and then smile just like the demon, because her soul was devoured by the demon and took over her body to kill her.

Yeah, I think so too. At the end it showed the entity reveal itself fully and pull open the main character's mouth in an unatural way and start to insert itself ... I think that's why the young woman at the start looked like she was choking before getting up and smiling.
The Ring came to mind while watching this.
