Why attack the Earth?

Why didn't the TET stop at somewhere like the Asteroid belt if it needed to get stuff, or Jupiter and strip mine that planet? Why make a beeline for Earth?

Water in its current state.

Plenty of water in the liquid state in Jovian and Saturn space, including D20........

Because if it did that there wouldn't be a movie. Plus it gives a great tet job.

This and because aliens have to be hostile. Even a cold machine that shouldnt even have instincts towards violence. Granted in the movie that tet a.i thing is shown to be very reasonable and even gullible or naive, to the bitter end as we saw... In reality that a.i was simply gathering fuel and its likely that it is a product of a biological civilization that probably died as a result... i mean if we ever make true a.i it'll be the greatest and the last achievement ever. Resulting in total extinction of life or infinite progress aided by a machine of maximum intellect possible. Hopefully its not suicidal.

Because Jupiter won't fight back - the Tet can get to it later

And Jupiter won't provide clones with creative repair solutions, from whom the Tet can probably learn

This thing travels the galaxy, probably thinking on million-year time tables. So why not get the earth out of the way first? Besides, if an intelligent race sees the Tet working on Jupiter, it'll have that much more time to prepare for the Tet or even attack first.

reply

Because then the whole movie would be the tet just chilling in space mining other uninhabited planets with no story.
