I didn't realise this was suppossed to be 1971 until...

I didn't even realise this was supposed to be 1971 until the Warrens said the date into the tape recorder (maybe I missed a timestamp at beginning I don't know). I just assumed it was some indeterminate time period. But then when they said "1971" I thought oh that explains the Warrens awful dress sense!! lol. But nothing really screamed 1971 to me. They all should have had way more ugly chunky glasses and bad hair and smoking. The production looked great and had great atmosphere but did not convey the time period well, imo.

I don't know...the hair styles, the clothing and the decor totally say late 60's early 70's. Also the song when they were moving into the house - Time of the Season by The Zombies was around that time giving another hint to the time period.

Yes I see that now in hindsight. But while watching I honestly thought the Perrons just liked the old fashioned lifestyle in an old house.
Similarly, the audiences at the Warrens lectures were not 1970's enough imo. I honestly had no idea. So too the 3 young people they talk to about the evil doll at the beginning, I got no 1970's vibe from them at all. But hey maybe it's just me.

What do you mean? Everything from the cars, hair styles, the tvs etc. portrayed the time period. I guess you didn't pay attention.

reply

Yeah it was lazy set pieces.

Dude, the suits, the hair styles, the cars... to me it screamed "LATE '60s! EARLY '70s!"
