Comparison to Grindhouse trailer

The only thing that seemed to match was the parade.

I have a feeling this movie would be even better received if it weren't for the awesome Grindhouse trailer.

Most of my criticisms of this movie are due to my expectations from the trailer. Many of us wanted a sleazy, rough around the edges horror with a mean sense of humor, preferably set in the 70s or 80s.

Instead we got a slick 2020s horror movie. The gore and humor are there but the production is very polished, the nudity/raunchiness is gone and it's very much a movie that the teens of 2023 will enjoy, it feels like it had them in mind as opposed to the 40-50 year olds who lived the slasher heyday.

In saying this I still really enjoyed it, just a case of getting my hopes up for something truly special and out there.

The movie hit a lot of the same beats as the original fake trailer. In the movie John Carver wore the mask but in the trailer you see the lower half of his face. The trampoline kill was far more brutal in the trailer and also the trailer looked like it was on a scratched up 35mm print while the movie is more polished and new.
