Why is there so much 90's and early 2000 music in this?

Seeing as its set in modern day, i just didn't get why its filled with all this 90s and early 2000's music. Everyone is listening to it on the radio, Danny sings an Incubus song, George is listening to the Dawson's Creek theme in his car, Amy's got in it playing on her radio.

Would be one thing if its music that isn't supposed to be playing in the world of the show and its just music we as the audience hear, but characters got this playing on the radio and are singing them, so it just felt weird its modern day and everyone in the show is singing and listening to early 2000's music.

Don't get me wrong i love all the songs used, big fan of that era of music, i just didn't get the use of it in a show set in 2023, why not set it in the early 2000's just to have it make a bit more sense?
