A weird omission after Matt Caldwell's disappearance/murder

The guy was partying with a a few friends and tons of guests the night before he shot the white deer. One of which, the best friend with a scar on his face, we learn has a huge beef with Matt . All those people become completely irrelevant to the investigation while they were the last to see Matt alive. Seems like they needed to at least mention it or have a short scene to where it's said they are not considered suspects.

Dexter could also have tried to misdirect the cops toward scarface.

Dexter was at the party so it wouldn't help him much to draw attention on the people that were there.

Whilst this show lacked competent writing, I wasn't bothered by what you point out. Bear in mind that the officer in charge believed Caldwell had skipped town.By the time she realised he might've been murdered, she certainly had bigger fish to fry.

Scarface would be immediately ruled out as a suspect the moment he revealed that he was living off monthly hush payments to keep his mouth shut and keep protecting Matt. It makes no sense that would Scarface kill his golden goose even though he hated him.
