Amiot's role? [spoilers]

I'm a bit confused here. Ray initiates the conversation by asking does Amiot have to report what he did, even though Amiot doesn't answer, Ray seems open until Amiot seeks clarification about Ray having framed Mickey, then he shuts down, gives his location & rest.

Was Ray concerned about letting it slip that he didn't shoot Mickey after all? Or did he realize Amiot was just going to dime him out?
