The most 'liberal' movie I have seen in a while

1. Blast white people -- check
2. Make the antagonist white -- check
3. Have minority outshine white person -- check
4. Show more respect towards prostitute than conservative white woman -- check.

Is this movie funny? Meh. It has it's moments. Indie humor... it's not laugh out loud funny, it's smug funny.

Cinematography, lighting, score, directing.... meh....

The best actress in the movie is that gorgeous young black girl. I have a feeling she will go far in the industry. Very talented young woman. Jennifer Garner was pretty decent too. Hugh Jackman... meh. That guy who played the sex offender on Curb Your Enthusiasm... meh. The plot, buildup and climax.... meh.

Meh.

I think Ms. Pickler was made out to be the bad person because she took something so unimportant and made it her whole life - which in and of itself is silly. But she was able to turn that passion into something that was more worthy of her talents - running for office rather than pushing her husband. The little girl could have been an orphaned asian, hispanic, native american, or even white girl from the wrong side of the tracks. The whole point was that the orphan had no one and nothing but still had a good sense of herself. Ms. Pickler had everything but focused all her attention on unimportant things and had no true sense of herself. In the end and through the competition Ms. Pickler saw that she needed to focus on herself and pursue things that she really wanted for herself. Running for office fulfilled that need and that was a positive thing.

Also, I love the actor Rob Corddry. He always makes me laugh! And he was so endearing in this movie. He always plays a goofball so it was nice to see him in this roll.

I'm a bleeding heart liberal, bordering on socialist, and I hated this film. I don't know that it was particularly liberal because it was mean spirited towards so many of the characters. The so-called "satirical" aspects of the film seem to be taking a swing at the conservative/right, but it was so poorly done that it could frankly be an undercover right wing job set up to frame liberals.

It's just a terrible film, and several of the performances were so over the top, notably Jennifer Garner's but she wasn't alone, Hugh Jackman was horrible in this too, he just got less screen time, but it makes you wonder what everyone was thinking agreeing to do it. It must have sounded better when described to them as a premise, but there are so many jarring, clunky lines ("are these crackers for real?"/ Brooke's obsession with money / the film's entire hideous ending - yuck) that don't add any comedic value or advance the idea that this is satirical, except that they're trying to hit you over the head with the idea that it is, so that it just plain looks less offensive.

Like these lines - who on earth thinks this is a clever exchange? With all the time and energy and effort involved in filming a turd like this, couldn't someone make one funny line out of all the moments like this one?

KAITLEN: God I hate people! I can't wait 'til everyone dies from global warning.
BROOKE: Right, do you know where your dad keeps his money?

not clever. not funny. definitely not satire.

FACT: The movie is apolitical. Prove me wrong.
