Why...

...do people in movies like this hold swords up by their face like that? Nobody would really do that, unless they were clueless about how to use a sword and were just mimicking what they'd seen in movies. And of course there were no movies in the times being depicted in these movies. It's as ridiculous as all the movies where people hold handguns up near their face.
