Curiously unsatisfying

It's a excellent cast, beautifully filmed and tells the familiar story clearly enough. But it seems to fall somewhere between L.A. Confidential and The Untouchables in the way it tells the story and is not as enjoyable as either.
Perhaps it's biggest problem is L. A. Confidential is such an excellent film they were setting themselves an almost impossible target and simply fail in comparison.
So, not a bad film just a bit disappointing.
