The Evil Dead (2013) Vs The Evil Dead (1981)?

Which one do you like better?
I've seen both and I don't really know which one to choose

Only nerds who hate remakes would find the 1981 to be better than this. The cheesy low budget original was a joke. It seemed more like a film project than a movie. The acting wasn't even good. So how would the newer one with a better production value and better characters have a lower score than the old one? Cause the nerds hate remakes even if it's better than the original.

Don't get hurt kid. I'm not your daddy, I'll beat you senseless.

The remake all the way.

I was about 12 when the first hit the cinemas. It was funny but even back then corny as hell. It established Ash as a rather comedic character than a real horror protagonist.
Whereas the remake is just menacing. The effects are well done, the scenes are disturbing and I think the lead did a pretty good job.

...but they hung him anyway.
Hanged, Ami. Your father was not a tapestry.

The original for me. Mia wasn't as fun for me to cheer for as Ash.

2013 has;
- Better production values across the board. With regards to lighting, cinematography and practical effects.
- Better acting by a decent margin.
- It's the much scarier and intense film. A brilliant mix of gore and jump scares.
- The screenplay is better.
- The pacing is a lot better. The original grinds to a halt around 60 minutes in.

It wins in pretty much every area. People just cling onto the original due to nostalgia or because they consider it in good taste as a cinephile to champion the golden oldie over the latest hit. Something of a hipster element at work. "This cheap looking, poorly acted film with no real story which needed padding to reach 80minutes in runtime is better."

Nah.

reply

The original of course. The remake was just another generic remake of an absolutely jaw dropping film.
