anyone else find it ironic?....

or at least funny that in its early days, the site's main selling point was exclusivity. You could only join with a Harvard e-mail address, or, later, with an e-mail address belonging to one of their invited universities.
When the site went mainstream, it's the complete opposite - anyone with an e-mail address can create a profile. It's so easy to create fake accounts etc. It's the opposite of exclusivity.

That was the secret to 100 billions.
Bullshit like that.
No kidding.
The WHOLE website is built on that selling point:
myspace is for kids...bla bla bla...anybody can see your page....some more bullshit about style.....facebook is only for us cool "grownups" (asshole kids from harvard) so you only share your stuff with who you want!!!!! I CANNOT BELIEVE IT GOD!!! Incredible genius!!!!!!!

Yes, of course being that only a RUSE and a GIMMICK to get idiots on board, as soon as they actually went after a business they got rid of it, along with any privacy rule and data collection decency.
