Is Lucy Punch's American accent any good?

Just watching Bad Teacher and was wondering whether any Americans on here could let me know what they think of Lucy Punch's accent in this film? I'm English, like her, so I can't tell whether it is particularly good or not.

It was a foolproof generic American accent. I'm an American and was surprised to learn after watching the movie that she isn't.

In the middle of the movie I IMDB'd her because seemed familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on where. I was surprised to see that she was in Hot Fuzz. I didn't remember any American actors in Hot Fuzz and then it hit me. "Holy sh-- she isn't American." So yeah it's pretty good.

Yes, I guess they got cute redheads in the UK.

I'm British and had absolutely no idea she was from my neck of the woods. Never seen her before, totally thought she was American.

"What, you don't like rice? Tell me Michael, how could a billion Chinese people be wrong?"

reply

I believe she is blonde naturally :)

Wow, had NO idea she wasn't American....so that oughta tell you that I think she did a great American accent! LOL It sounded Midwestern.

reply

Yeah her American accent was great.

I thought so. Quite a different role than the one she had in "Hot Fuzz"

I love to love my Lisa.

I knew she wasn't American having previously seen her in another film and googled. Her accent is flawless, and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

I'm from the midwest, where the film is set, and her American accent was not only very, very good, but she nailed the nasally, annoying pitch the character required. I thought I caught a vowel or two here and there that were very slightly off, but I knew she was British and was searching for mistakes. She definitely did a better job than Americans trying to pull off a British accent.

While watching the film, I kept saying "her accent seems off", but I figured she was doing that on purpose for the character. I didn't know she was British. I'm American, and I sound nothing like that. Although, it did work for the character she was playing.

That's hardly noteworthy as the US is a vast country with HUGE variation in accents. New York accent in hugely different from Typical Texas which is different from even next door Louisiana. I'm not American but reckon I can easily pick at least half a dozen different regional accents

reply

Yeah, it was good. It was the standard American accent. I was shock to find out she's English. Brits and Australians can fake an American accent better than Americans do with British or Australian accents...oh, well, except for Nicole Kidman.

She pronounced a few words in an unAmerican way...If you had focused on her pronunciation (most people didn't) you could have noticed her not being American.

I first saw Lucy in Tall Dark Stranger and became enamored of her from that performance. I was pleasantly surprised to see her pull off the Yank accent quite convincingly in this film. I've always admired British actors, but Lucy is one of my new favorites. She’s truly a gem.
