Fashion really bothered me

I know it's a small point, but was anyone else bothered that ALL the women wore mini-skirts in 1963?
Mini-skirts weren't the fashion until about 1967-1968. Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing the legs, but it did bug me the writers/production team made such an error.

Not just the fashion, but the hair styles. Beehive hairdos were the thing back then, and here we saw no women close to even having such a style. And some of the men's hair (Kevin Beacon) were longer than the Beatles! If anyone sees footage of the Beatles, especially when they first came to the States, what the media was harping on the most was how long their hair was and when are they going to get their haircut! That should have been a running gag for this movie!

Yeah, I bet you loved seeing the legs. Jfc, when someone says something like this, you sound like freak out when you see legs

You're not the only one, the fashions are not the least bit authentic. Mostly from the late sixties, or purely modern, almost nothing appropriate for 1963.

The two sequels are no better.

Does the movie really strike you as striving for authenticity in any way?

This movie does not take place in "our" 1963. It takes place in the 1963 of the X-Men cinematic universe. Of course there are going to be things different from how they were in the real world.

yeah, remember when everybody had superpowers in the 60s? man, that was an awesome time. i wonder what happened.

After a few unsuccesful tries, Wolverine finally did change the past and prevented any superpowered mutants to ever happen. I hate Wolverine.

In a world filled with mutants, it’s not the least bit bothersome to me. Besides, the movie focuses on mutants and military/CIA people; we hardly get to see normal civilians in it. In Xavier and Raven’s first scene, for the most part everyone around them looked authentic. The enemies of the movie (government folks) definitely look the part in their suits and uniforms. The mutants? While most of their clothing and hairstyles don’t quite scream early 60’s, i think it makes sense that they would look somewhat ahead of their time. And with Raven (um, I mean Mystique) wearing mini-skirts, that isn’t hard to accept. She’s believably a little ahead of the curve.

In any event, in the X-Men world things could convincingly look different from the reality we know. Perhaps not much effort went into ALL the fashion, but overall I certainly get an early 60’s vibe from the film.

And yes, the gals looked good.
