Out of my review count, 50% average 50% terrible

Seriously there was even a guy thay said it was the worst comic book movie he had seen after Catwoman.

Congratulations Sony! They care about the marketing rather than to hire competent people to make their movies.

Im gonna obviously see the film but. Its sad to know that this Universe will likely die even if makes some money simce it has no critical praise

You don't know how to screen out the fakes.

Saw it earlier today and it was pretty awful. Aside from Catwoman, I'd say it was better than 2015's Fantastic Four but that's about it. I like Tom Hardy but he didn't come off like a TV worthy investigative journalist. This also may have been Michelle William's worst performance. Not that it was entirely her fault, just a really poor script. It's a shame to see so much talent wasted.

And yet it still made a record $10 mil on Thursday previews and its audience score is over 88% at the moment on RT. So barring critics and online reviewers, the movie currently seems to be a hit with audiences (they don’t know quality, am I right my man? Let’s tell them! Lol).

Interesting. Cool!

reply

Yeah I dont know. The RT audience score is certainly a surprise given the general reactions I saw online. But hey.. Amazing Spider-man 2 had failed with both audiences and critics and I still thought it was an enjoyable movie

reply

And yeah you can call me stupid for liking TASM 2 but I did agree with the issues everybody had

reply

Nothing wrong with liking what you like. As awful and silly as some movies are, they can still be enjoyable to watch. I’ll be completely honest... I LOVED Venom. Yep. I’m trying not to sound like a delusional fanboy here - trust me, as a huge fan of the character I know this movie could’ve been so much more - but in my humble opinion, the harsh criticism and unapologetic comparisons to Catwoman & Fant4stic (Venom’s critic score isn’t good but it remains well ahead of those two wrecks) has been way overblown. This movie is by all means a real crowd-pleaser. The audience I saw it with undoubtedly had a great time with it! Now sure, I would be lying if I said it isn’t without its flaws...

... yet in spite of these flaws, the movie is thoroughly enjoyable and save for a few wonky shots, the special effects are grade A. Furthermore, it’s quirky, INTENTIONALLY funny, decently-paced, and more importantly, Venom’s portrayal is like straight out of the comics for the most part. Oh, and for all that talk about how unorignal the movie is (yes it’s derivative in some aspects, but, its wacky and darkish humor+lead performance sets it apart from even the likes of Deadpool), it had more surprising and clever moments in it than I expected. So all in all I found the movie to be a total blast and no less than decent. In NO WAY did I feel like I was watching a disaster.

You know what I did find aggravating about it? The hip hop tracks. Luckily these didn’t pop up throughout the movie or anything, but when they did play, they were annoyingly out of place haha. By the way, both Hardy & Venom alone make this worth watching. What they bring to the movie is great and significantly more memorable than anything seen in the painfully dull and empty aforementioned comic movies. Hardy is fully immersed in the role and he is downright intense!

Thanks for your comment man, it certainly made me more excited to see the film. And yes me too, aside from Amazing Spidey 2 I also did enjoy Fan4stic for the first two acts quite a bit. And yes.. as a giant fan of the character of Venom as I am, I will say the movie looks fun. Unfortunately I will only be seeing it when it comes to bluray because I live in Brazil and all of the theatres nearby play the film dubbed in portuguese because people are just lazy to read subtitles. And I hate dubbed movies.
