For the haters

Oh for crying out loud! It was an entertaining movie. Beautiful people. Beautiful places. Fun story. IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THE CURE FOR CANCER. Get over yourselves.

reply

Agreed. Beautiful locations. I got the impression the film was not made purely for an american audience, neither was SALT, but I enjoyed both.

So it is "hate" to point out that the first twenty minutes accomplish little more than drinking a cup of coffee? That the cops chasing her are conveniently too inept to disperse a crowd? Or put in a call to halt the subway for the ten seconds it would take to catch up to her? That's about where I gave up on watching - unbearably slow opening leading to cartoonish hijinks.

reply

I must "hate" it too. I had originally thought "this is not the most exciting or moving movie" -hate is such a strong word . Tolerable, maybe to most people but I could not continue paying attention. Gave it a fair shot but turned it off about half-way through.

This movie was a good watch on a rainy day. Huge fan of Depp, not so much of Jolie. I do think that the twist at the end was tacked on and would have been better without it. Other than that, this was a beautiful movie with great looking stars, just leave your brain at the front door.

Didn't expect it to be the cure for cancer. I didn't expect much from it when I watched it and I still just didn't like it.

I kind of don't care if the people are beautiful or not. If the story is boring, the story is boring and no amount of vain can save it for me.

You can't fake good art any more than you can fake a good meal.

I had heard this was bad from that Ricky Gervais dig, but was willing to give it a go when it came on justin.tv the other night. I had to turn it off after about 30 minutes because I was actually embarrassed for the actors. Cannot put my finger on it, but usually good actors make acting look easy. In this Jolie and Depp made it look hard.

managed to sit through this somehow, twist at teh end not a major surprise, Depp normally very watchable but this was not the right vechile for him. Glad a managed to sit through as the best them about the movie was the Muse song Starlight over teh final credits, but could have just listened to it on my ipod.

reply

It was OK. Nothing to memorable but a nice watch that keeps you entertained.

Did you see the original film named 'Anthony Zimmer' (2005)??? That film was 1000x better than this crap

reply

After giving this a miss at the cinema because the trailer looked awful, I just watched it on tv (it's Sunday night, there's nothing on and this has Johnny Depp in it!!!) and it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be or as critics made it out to be.

It probably didn't live up to the money spent on it but it was watchable - I didn't even mind Angelina's faux English accent and her overly glamourous look (which is partially what annoyed me in the trailer). Also, it was kind of nice to see Johnny not being either super cool or uber weird in a film for a change.

Yes, it was a bit predictable but I'd probably give it a least a 6 out of 10.

reply

you watched it too on channel 4

I would give it 6/10 too

reply

Yeah, I wasn't really expecting to like it but I enjoyed it just fine.

I suppose the haters didn't like it because they expect more from Angelina/Johnny Depp films but it was a bit of lighthearted fun imo.

Having seen it 3 or 4 times at home on my large flat screen (which beats the heck out of what I used to watch movies on an certainly is better than when commercials interrupt) I thought it was quite enjoyable.I just had one wish. Johnny-comb your hair. But I'm ready to see it again. It was fun. Fun is good.
