Johnny Depp was the only thing that made this good.

Done.

That was a nice surprise. Mr. Depp is one of the cool guys of Hollywood with all the roles he takes on for the love of acting and having fun with it.

i think it just shows that he isnt embarrassed to show and honor where he came from. in this case the original show obviously launched his career so it was a nice gesture to do this. of course i didnt expect how his role would end. lol
and it was very cool seeing Peter Deluise back with him.

and then as most know by now, his first role ever was in the original Nightmare on Elm Street. and he came back for a cameo in Freddy's Dead (Nightmare 6) and it was eventually revealed Wes Craven wanted him for a cameo in New Nightmare (Nightmare 7) but feared he'd just refuse so he never bothered asking but Johnny's gone on to say he would have done it if asked.

reply

he was only in it cause he was in the original series 21 Jump Street. Playing the same character - it doesn't make him cool.

reply

Yeah ... it makes he cool ... BIGTIME .

Agreed, awesome cameo

I'm watching the end now and I thought it was someone who looks like him .. he is indeed cool for doing this .

Agreed. The movie is otherwise a waste of time and should have never of been made in the first place.

I actually thought the johnny depp cameo was one of the worst parts of the movie. It was ok, but not particularly funny and just felt shoe-horned in. There were much better scenes, and the movie overall was one of the best comedies I've seen for awhile

reply

This. I loved the movie, IMO one or the best comedies of AT LEAST the last decade, but the Depp scene disappointed me. Was going ok til the long winded "I love you man" schtick. Even though it was mean to be kinda cheesy, it was WAY too cheesy.

reply

Agreed. I thought his cameo was easily one of the worst I've ever seen. The last 30 minutes of this movie were horrible, imo.

Once the wig, beard and glasses come off, his character still looks pretty old. Is that age make-up, or is that how Depp looks without either white pancake or fake tan and eyeliner? Not criticising - he's still a handsome guy, and he looks great for his age.

Here's a recent picture of him without the "white pancake or fake tan and eyeliner" http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/6436/fk5b.jpg, does he still look pretty old to you?

Sad what happened to his character at the end.

Johnny Deep makes anything seem better. Especially this crap.

I didn't like how his part ended so abruptly. Still his scenes through out were nods to the old series and very funny

Neither the best or worst thing about the movie. No scratch that, his cameo AND Peter DeLuise’s (Penhall ruled, man) is far and away my favorite thing in the movie. Even though it was a ridiculous re-introduction - and possible farewell - to the original characters, their brief appearance in the movie wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. It was a funny nod that poked fun at 21 Jump Street’s roots.... Nothing more or less. Besides, knowing how Depp has always been known for being very uncomfortable with his 21 Jump Street past, seeing him appear in this was a pleasant surprise.

Cheesy? Nope. Hilarious? To me it was. This movie wasn’t the kind of follow up I would have wanted to the original show, but it can be appreciated for its own merits.
