Did Ethan intentionally plan on having himself & Peter kicked off of the airplane?

Ethan seemed to feel no shame or sadness over him getting kicked off of the airplane along with him being put on the "no fly" list, it made me wonder if he really wanted Peter & himself to get kicked off of the airplane, I felt no sympathy for Ethan getting put on the "no fly" list but felt really sorry for Peter although Peter himself isn't the nicest character on film.

I don't think it was intentional. But once it happened, Ethan took his wallet to force Peter into having to drive cross-country with him to keep him company.

That's where this movie diverts from Planes, Trains and Automobiles, to which it is often compared. John Candy never really did anything malicious, beyond using all the towels in the shower! Candy was much more likeable, especially at the end.
