Whitey on the Moon song is what stuck with me

I disagree with the racial undertones of that song (ie “whitey”). But I agree with the criticism of spending all that time and energy to go to the moon when people here on Earth are suffering and needy. Space exploration really serves the purpose of satisfying curiosity; and satisfying curiosity is not as important alleviating hunger, homelessness, overpopulation, and other problems.

People justify space exploration on the basis that Earth will die someday. But Earth won’t die for hundreds of millions of years, and anything can happen from now to then. It’s foolish to justify space exploration on an event projected to occur millions of years from now

I think most of them were brothers. Some had sons and daughters. And parents.

The technologies they developed have paid for the cost of the program a dozen times over.
