A good solid spooky film, pay no attention to the gore porn fans!

Because of coming on this board before I watched Ouija I was expecting the worst but was plesently surprised...The score does not represent the score the film should have, I would give it a good 6.5.

Acting was pretty good especially by Olivia, storyline was good I thought and setting was spooky!

I'll be adding this to my dvd collection for sure.

Meat is murder

It's not a terrible film but I just found it really average. It wasn't scary and there wasn't much else going on to keep me hooked into the film.

reply

i agree with the other user, it was just average not terrible

reply

I'd watch it again

Meat is murder

Fair enough and I am glad you enjoyed it :-)

Lets me see, what was good about this?

Nothing. Nothing at all. Typical easy cash in horror for pre-teens who have never seen a horror flick in their life. Total garbage, 1 out of 10.

This is a movie made for people who don't watch horror movies.

The only defense anyone has given on these message boards is that those who don't like it are gore freaks. Well, I am a gore freak, but I appreciate good horror plain and simple. The best horror films over the years have not been that gory.

This film is a turd.

Personally I found it to be bland and inoffensive glossy studio teen horror. Not the worst I've ever seen, just wholly unremarkable. The acting was passable if uninspired, the directing competent, the cinematography decent enough, and the whole thing was generally okay. The script was a total mess though.

reply

You forgot the cringe worthy dialogue. That was easily the scariest part about it.

I don't mind glossy teen horror when the characters are constructed well enough to tell them apart, but this particular group was so uninspired and wishy-washy about their friends dropping like flies around them I couldn't even remember their names by the time the movie ended. And there wasn't much plot to compensate, either.

A truly unremarkable film.

I find it to be very average. Nothing about it really stands out as being particularly good or bad to me. It just exists. I don't regret watching it but I wouldn't jump at recommending it either. Just a generic PG-13 paranormal horror movie.

reply

I liked it just fine, and I agree it's probably gore fans or "torture porn" lovers (ie, Saw, Hostel, Human Centipede etc) who are disappointed by this type of movie.

Horror these days is sharply divided between the more traditional "spooky/eerie/haunted house/haunted person/scary monster" genre and outright violence-based, gore-based.

I'm a fan of spooky far more than slash-gore. For spooky, this movie delivers just fine.

If Ouija is available here on Netflix, I'm going to watch it. Will look now.

reply

Too bad, only the sequel is available on Netflix. But I did just think of another in the genre I liked: Awakening, with Rebecca Hall and Dominic West.

reply

Ooh, I don't think I've seen Awakening, I will try to check that out too.

That's too bad you can't get Ouija on Netflix -- and weird that they have the sequel but not the first one! It's definitely worth a watch.

reply

I think you'll like Awakening.

Well, turns out it's not the sequel to Ouija, but to another ouija movie. I'm watching it now. It's hilarious! But, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be hilarious or not. Either it's a parody, or it's straight up bad.

reply

Intentional or not, you can't beat a bit of hilarity, lol!

reply

Aw, too bad. It was just a very, very bad movie. I was hoping it was going to start out as a parody, and then gradually turn into an actually scary story. That would have been a cool and novel idea.

But, like you said, hilarity is a good thing, intentional or not!
