SPOILERS with regard to the conduct of Dementus

This film has some fun with the three stages of Dementus and visual illustrations with his robe which is at first holy and white, later wrath red, and eventually black death, and then eventually worn by his destructor. In the beginning, he seems to have a fairly good hold on his biker gang. It's when his aspirations grow greater that things spin out of control. Dementus cannot gain control of Gastown without... sacrificing factions of his troop. And so he does. And this ends up unmaking his empire as it's being created. This is all great stuff. A lot of "big things" that happen in this movie are explained with a single line of dialog shouted off screen. Really had to see this thing twice to follow it. But in order to gain Gastown, Dementus lost control of Octoboss and his minions, which just led to further ruin and retribution. He later loses control of Gastown all together. And gets more desperate. These freaks all keep pushing each other to greater extremes until Praetorian Jack & Furiosa has no recourse but to level Bulletform to ash. They didn't want to do any of that shit. Dementus made that happen. Dementus makes Furiosa. This is my favorite bit that haters ignore. Furiosa isn't, even after all this, really strong enough to do this shit on her own. She needs Max to swoop in and literally prop her up in the end. Max is just the wrong asshole that gets shanghaied into this empire, that he single handily topples. But you can see in this movie that Dementus' army shrinks toward the end, back to his original band of biker nomads. His original loyalists. It just wasn't enough.
