Would a sequel with Mad Max have made Fury Road box office?

a Mad Max 5 sequel with Hardy as Max in the lead role (or even Mel if set decades after FR*), Hemsworth as the villian, ATJ as another female bad ass character, and maybe a Charlize Theron/Furiosa cameo (*or at least some scenes set in the far future with Mel as old man Max)

Would that gave been enough to pull in similar box office to FR? (45m opening, 150m total domestic, 380m ww). Or would it have still bombed like Furiosa?

My guess is it would've done alot better but not to the level of FR, maybe 280-300m ww

With Gibson as the lead in a sort of old-man Logan role … I believe that Mad Max film would be successful

But with Hardy - no. The 2015 movie was not a financially successful movie, with Hardy at the top

Which is a shame. I much prefer casting young charismatic actors to carry the torch as opposed to using an old actor clearly past his prime and can't move without the help of an editing team. Or that awful deaging cgi trend, or cheap nostalgia bait gimmick. The new star wars films used nostalgia bait, Jurassic world did it, the only movie to pull it off well was Spiderman No Way Home. Blade runner 2049 was amazing because it used Ford but not as the main character anymore. We all love certain people in roles but you can't hold onto them forever. Fury Road was better than any cheap nostalgia bait gimmick.
