Who else thinks Zeco wasn't needed?

Just recently watched this film for the first time and found it very enjoyable, but I truly felt that the character and scenes of Zeco wasn't needed. I almost found him some what random and unimportant to the story. Who feels the same way? Overall, great and captivating film!

I certainly had no need for him.

But it is has been pointed out that this movie is supposed to be entertaining and artistic. I think that means that it whether or not it makes sense is less important that whether it is visually entertaining. A muscular guy dressed as a tiger being violent and committing rape is artistic.

Maybe we could take in an old Steve Reeves movie?

I thought i was the only one who feelt that way about him, for me it didn't add anything to the movie and was just a distraction from it, just feelt like it was there so we could get some lite nudity and blood... If that segment haven't been in the movie ( or handled better ) i might have given the movie a 8-10 now it lands on a 7-10 because i didn't enjoy that segment at all...

I think that Zeca showing up was instrumental to unlocking the passion that the doctor had pent up for vera. Vera called herself a 'toy' for him to play with. He is possessive over her, and I believe that him seeing another man using his possession was what finally pushed him to be intimate with her, which is exactly the situation that Vera was waiting for to escape.

The director was comparing the rape scenes. So yes it was necessary.

So Zeco was Roberto's lost relative and was a rapist himself? Also - it was believed he let him in, but how was he so sure he was actually going to do it?

The greatest trick the Devil has ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist!

He is seemingly unnecessary character, but he actually pushed the actions into motion. Thanks to his actions we got to know the relationships between Roberto and Marilia, and why Vera was lookalike to Roberto's wife. Also, it was after encounter between Zeco and Vera, when Roberto let Vera out of her room and walk around freely.

These small and random details that actually tie things together makes this film so good.

What I didn't understand about this character is why they made him Brazilian. They made a Spanish actor try a mediocre Portuguese accent for no apparent reason. Nothing in the plot requires Zeca to be from Brazil. It felt like unnecessary hassle
