So many original elements. Lazy writing or re-imaginative nod to the franchise?

I think - intentional or not - they bulldozed any attempts to turn this into a new franchise by pulling together so many elements of the original franchise into one movie. Think about it:

1. Chris = Christina. In name, Kristen or Tina. A beautiful blond living with her single mother in the rich part of town (Kristen, parts 3 & 4).

2. Chris dying Tina's death/appearing to Nancy in the body bag (part 1).

3. The diner setting (parts 4 and 5) and the flashing red & green lights (part 4)

4. Nancy in the bath tub (part 1)

5. Chris falling asleep/dreaming in class (Nancy in part 1, Sheila in part 4)

6. Character named Jesse (part 2) jumping at Chris's bedroom window (Glenn jumping at Nancy's window in part 1)

7. Chris meeting her childhood self (Kristen in part 4)

8. Pulling Freddy out of the dream (parts 1 and 6)

9. Movie ends with Freddy killing Nancy's mother (part 1).

10. Flashbacks to Freddy's past and lynching (done in Freddy's Dead and Freddy v. Jason).

11. Freddy jumping out of the grave to grab a little kid at a funeral (done in New Nightmare)

12. Freddy's shape coming through the wall over the bed (done in part 1)

13. Nancy sketching out her dreams in the reboot (Kristen's model of the Elm Street house in part 3, young Kristen's chalk drawing in part 4, Mark's comic sketches in part 5, Robert's painting in New Nightmare)

So many elements from the original movies seem to have been rebooted along with the movie itself. Call it lazy and it may be. Or could it have been done intentionally? Was there ever even a plan for a new sequel?

I don't think they were particularly going for originality, if I'm honest. Some scenes were almost direct copies. The bathtub scene, the Freddy hovering through the roof whilst Nancy was in bed bit etc...

It felt like a lazy cash grab. Which is a shame.

I might be in a minority, but I didn't think Jackie Earl Healey was that bad as Freddy. I did think that pretty much everything else sucked though. Including the repetition of previous ideas that you mentioned. Also, wasn't keen on the actors who played the kids. And Rooney Mara's comments afterwards stunk. "Ooooh, I acted bad on purpose, because I didn't want to be in a horrror movie, I'm too good." Get off....
